Today, we welcome another new business to the Township, Premier Dance Company in Haslett who is hosting a grand opening tonight. We’re happy to be a community of choice for businesses and we’re happy to see these openings as a sign of the economy going up and thriving in Meridian Township. We appreciate the investments new and long-time established businesses have made in redeveloping sites that were vacant, signing new lease agreements where space was once vacant, as well as upgrading and renovating existing sites.
We too, have been investing in the community and are happy to see many Township projects moving forward. After years of planning and saving funds we are poised to begin reconstruction of our Municipal Building parking lot. We began that work today. The improvements will include new pavement and LED lights. This will create a better user experience at the Municipal Complex for residents and visitors to our very popular Farmers’ Market.
Investing in people is important to us as we take pride in caring for our community members. More of this is seen with the new fence at Wonch Park and Ferguson Park and will be seen with the new parking lot at Wonch. We recently saw renovations in the Town Hall Room and we are currently underway with renovations to the Municipal Building restrooms. What is really unique about the downstairs ladies room is that it will include a make-up area for the dozens of student reporting volunteer interns who go through our HOMTV Internship multimedia journalism program.
While that may seem insignificant, what you may not know is that already this year, these students have written 614 stories for the public and they will go on to do great things in their career once they graduate from the HOMTV Internship program.
We are happy to be able to give back to our interns and we thank everyone for pardoning our dust as we continue to make improvements and move forward to provide great services. Township Assistant Manager and Director of Public Works and Engineering provides a timeline of what to expect with the parking lot improvements as we move forward.
